Orwell get another big win!
This year’s Blairhill Challenge got off to a frustrating start, with the opposition failing to turn up for Match 1, due to their own confused comms. (Technically Orwell therefore took a lead of +6 into Match 2 by default!)
Orwell’s second rink of Ian Robertson, Rob Doig, Michael Longstaffe and Peter Wyatt dutifully turned up to battle out the second round. The attending opposition comprised two reasonably new curlers and two extremely competent seniors, one a national coach.
Orwell got off to a good start, which was compounded by a 6 in the 2nd end! With tension mounting the opposition toiled under the sustained pressure this ‘crack team’ of Orwell curlers heaped on them and the match was won. Safe to say it was a resounding victory with all four Orwell curlers delivering strong steady performances, each with their own flashes of brilliance!
The trophy is enormous and was well worth fighting for, just a shame it was a long way for the opposition to come back from.
The victors had a pleasant social exchange with their brother curlers in the bar and look forward to defending the title.
